Vardan Hovhannisyan (he/him) began his career as a camera operator covering conflicts arising from the dissolution of the USSR. In 1993, he founded Bars Media, one of Armenia's pioneering independent film companies. He has since worked in conflict zones around the world, including Syria, Sudan, and the Kenya-Somalia border.
