Macarena Aguiló (she/her) is a director, screenwriter, and producer at El Espino Films. She has a master’s degree in Film Studies from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She directed, wrote, and co-produced El edificio de los chilenos (Grand Prize FIDOCS 2010, Coral Havana 2010, Special Jury Prize FICCI 2011, Best Documentary NYLFF HBO 2011 among others). She is currently writing and directing the documentaries La Causa and El Retrato, with the support of the Chilean Audiovisual Fund. Her work as a producer includes Visión Nocturna (2019), by Carolina Moscoso, Grand Prix FIDMarseille 2020, Award of Excellence Yamagata IDFF 2021, Best Opera Prima Cinema Tropical 2021. She has collaborated in the production of the documentaries Imagen Final (2008) by Andrés Habegger and La Embajada (2019) by Carmen Castillo, and as script advisor for Allende, mi abuelo Allende by Marcia Tambutti, L'oeil d'Or Cannes 2015 Award.
