Leveraging the performativity of far-right news personalities, two filmmakers satirize and critique the media ecosystems which enable violence against queer and trans people. This documentary “investigation” of the drag queer group of nuns known as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence draws attention to the ways performance—of gender in particular—is weaponized for political persuasion. Blending genres, the film illuminates the performative hypocrisy of the current political moment, and how queer and trans people are scapegoats for broader cultural anxieties.
