At sixteen, Andrea eloped with Andrei. Now, she runs their household in east Germany with quiet pragmatism while Andrei drifts toward other women. On her 20th birthday, she announces she’s five months pregnant. Despite her husband's infidelity, Andrea is determined to build the life she always wanted anyway. Woven through the footage is stop-motion animation illuminating Andrea’s dream of a life that could have been: a girl sneaking out at night, dancing on a subway, falling for a boy who felt like the beginning of everything. The film itself asks what remains when that dream meets reality.
