Carrying forward an ancestral African American practice, two midwives in Atlanta offer safe home births to Black mothers who have long been failed by the medical system. In a state where home-birth midwives are barred from licensure, they operate underground—while also leading the fight for a State Bill that would legalize their work. With intimate birth scenes, shot in timeless black and white, the film unfolds against the alarming backdrop of rising maternal mortality rates among Black women.
