The eldest of five daughters, Tamia is expected to act as an additional caretaker for her sisters. At the heart of the film lies a tender relationship between Tamia and her little sister London, the second oldest. As college nears, Tamia takes London on a series of “sister dates” to reclaim her own fleeting childhood and ensure London has a fighting chance to embrace her youth in real time. Lyrical in style and form, Kids Can Spit (Unfiltered) is a multigenerational story about parentification, Black girlhood, intergenerational healing—and the radical act of joy.
