Julia Thompson (they/them) is the Associate Director of Program at Chicken & Egg Pictures. A filmmaker, producer, and educator with 15 years of experience, Julia has worked across independent film, documentary, television, and audio, supporting projects from development through production and release.

Prior to joining Chicken & Egg Pictures, Julia produced films and series for independent filmmakers, studios, and streaming platforms. Their recent credits include executive producing the feature Nomad Shadow, co-producing the Netflix documentary series The Kings of Tupelo, hosting and producing the podcast You Had to Be There, and producing Dustin Guy Defa’s The Adults. As a director, Julia directed and produced the feature documentary This Land, Our Voices and the short documentary Little Boy Loon, both of which premiered at the Camden International Film Festival. Projects Julia has worked on have screened at festivals including Berlinale, TIFF, BFI London, and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.

Alongside their filmmaking career, Julia has taught film production at Barnard College and film production and podcast creative development in Columbia University’s MFA Film Program. They hold an MFA in Film from Columbia University, are a Sundance Creative Producing Fellow, and are an alum of the Rotterdam Lab.
